RESEARCH | THRILLER FILMS

10/9/14 | RESEARCH | THRILLER FILMS (research, what’s come out and what’s coming out recently)

I researched Thriller films by finding out what has recently come out and is in viewing at cinemas. I visited the ODEON CINEMAS website and I scrolled through their list of new releases, I decided to choose upon more of the well-known titles to do my research upon as they are most popular.
-The release of the new Hobbit: I believe it is the third of the saga and is proving to be a popular choice. It targets a wide audience and its supernatural features, including the dramatic life of young Hobbit Bilbo Baggins proves to add up into a very popular and successful thriller films. I can take from this film the intense music along with the misty and dark colourings which add to the intensity of each scene.

- The recent release of the newest film of the saga The Hunger Games is another famous title. The cliff-hanger ending of the last film created a dramatic wait for the newly released film. The combination of Katniss Everdeens journey to overthrow the capital makes a very tense thriller. I can take from these films the use of a cliff-hanger ending and the use of true love to really connect to the audience.

-Fury is the newly released film starring Brad Pitt. The storyline is about WW2. This film is an action thriller mainly about two soldiers. The film shows their budding relationship. This film is a thriller because it shows the intensity and reality of war for soldiers. It shows the reality of death and losing a loved one. It creates an atmosphere of risk and terror, which it makes the audience feel trough the dramatic music and exchange of gunfire. The constant camera angles and realistic background noises of battle really encourage the audience to feel a part of the battle. This is a very important feature to a thriller. The audience wants to be a part of the film. I learnt this from the film and will take it away for discussion amongst my group members to discuss techniques an ways this can be included in our opening.
